This week's signal: nitrogen and input-cost money is the theme. USDA has a fresh $500M fertilizer-expansion window open, FSA is taking organic certification cost-share applications for 2025 and 2026, and Nebraska now has two nitrogen-focused lanes worth watching. That does not mean every row-crop farmer has a check waiting — fertilizer efficiency, documentation, and processor/supply-chain partnerships are the real angles. Keep the agronomist, bookkeeper and grant detective in the same room; otherwise everyone will blame the other two later. |

August 7 is close enough that procrastination now counts as a strategy, just not a good one. | | 2. | Organic producers and handlers should pull certification invoices and check FSA's OCCSP application requirements for both 2025 and 2026 program years before December 31. | | 3. | Meat processors should compare MPPEP Phase 4 against state/local infrastructure money before assuming the smaller state program is easier or better. | | 4. | Ohio, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota producers should check local SWCD/department pages for nutrient-management, cover-crop, soil-health and water-quality incentives.
