Weekly funding alerts for the rural entrepreneur

Alabama JumpStart and Pennsylvania Sustainable Agriculture both close August 28. Utah Food Security closes August 31. Early-September action includes Iowa Energy Infrastructure (Sep 4), Missouri Urban Ag and Wisconsin Watershed (Sep 15), Illinois Section 319 and Iowa Historic Preservation (Sep 16), and Pennsylvania Most Effective Basin (Sep 18). ARC/PLC base-acre review also closes August 31, and FSA operating plan updates are due September 15.

Grant Snap

We recently started using a satellite imagery tool called Sentinel Ag that records nutrient deficiency in our fields. We didn't even realize that we were able to apply for EQIP 590 until we used Grant Snap. Grant Snap is a free tool that automatically generates a list of programs available specific for your operation. Try it out now!

N Rate Risk Protection Program

Reducing your nitrogen rate is a financial risk most farmers avoid without data. PFI's N Rate Risk Protection program backs you up: get $5/acre for any enrolled rate reduction, and $30/acre if your yield drops below 95% of your 10-year average. Open to corn farmers in IA, IL, MN, MO, NE, WI and southeastern SD. Enroll by April 30, 2027.

To increase your likelihood of success in this program, Sentinel Ag is a tool you can leverage. Sentinel's daily satellite imagery and advanced data pinpoint exactly which parts of your field need nutrients and when — giving you and your PFI agronomist real field-level evidence to work with, not guesswork.

What to Do This Week
1.Alabama JumpStart and Pennsylvania Sustainable Agriculture close today, August 28. If you are eligible, today is a submission day, not a drafting day.
2.ARC/PLC base-acre review and Utah Food Security both close August 31. Iowa CDBG water infrastructure closes September 1.
3.Iowa Energy Infrastructure Revolving Loan is due September 4. Same day, Washington Climate Smart Farm Equipment applications open.
4.Pennsylvania Agricultural Innovation Grant Round 3 is due September 23. Screen it before committing to equipment or project financing — match requirements are 30%–50% and the program is reimbursement-based.
5.Wisconsin and Missouri both hit September 15 — Producer-Led Watershed (WI) requires a group of 5+ farmers in the same watershed, and Missouri Urban Ag requires eligible partners. Start building those relationships this week.
6.Institutions and extension professionals should triage the September federal calendar: CYFAR Sep 1, 1890 Scholarships Sep 10, Tribal Research Phase II Sep 11, Agriculture Risk Management Sep 21.
